Datong Elementary School Celebrates Children’s Day with a Fun Fair of Language, Culture, and Green Ideas
To celebrate Children’s Day, Datong Elementary School in Changhua County held a fun and lively fair right before the holiday. There were lots of cool booths with yummy Taiwanese food, AI games, and hands-on activities. Many students came with their parents, and everyone had a great time!
One of the most exciting parts was a live video chat with Dom Jones from the United Nations Association of Orange County. She works as a Government Affairs Ambassador and has been promoting the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. Through this special talk, students got to hear ideas about how to make the world a better place and think more about global issues.
To go along with the SDG theme, Yuanming Junior High School from Yunlin County ran a fun booth at the fair called “Walk with the Environment.” They brought awesome games and tools made from recycled or natural materials. At the booth, kids played games and learned simple ways to save energy and protect the Earth—all while having fun.
There were also booths set up by foreign teachers from Tanzania, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Columbia. At “Rose Kitchen,” led by a teacher from Tanzania, students sampled traditional dishes like Mandazi, a sweet fried dough with cardamom, and Chai ya Iliki, a spiced milk tea. It was a fun way to try something new and learn about Tanzanian culture through food.
At the “Mimi Love Snacks” booth, a teacher from Tanzania introduced a special version of the samosa, filled with beef, chicken, or potatoes—made to fit Taiwanese tastes. They also offered cashew nuts and egg-coated peanuts, which were super tasty!
After enjoying the snacks, students could join an English word game led by a teacher from Colombia. They had to quickly place a word card on the table and make a sentence using it. It was fun, full of laughs, and a great way to practice English.
There was also a soccer challenge led by a teacher from Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, where students dribbled through cones and aimed for the goal. It was a great way to get moving and have fun together.
This fair was more than just a party—it was a great chance for students to learn new things, use English in real life, and meet people from different countries. Everyone had a blast and picked up something new without even noticing!
